Hosted by Konnov & Sozanovsky, the Fall Conference of First Law International (FLI) was held in Kiev from November 20-22nd, 2008. Attendees included delegates from Turkey, Great Britain, France, Italy, Israel, Germany, Czech Republic, Belgium, Portugal, the United States and other member states of FLI. Konnov & Sozanovsky represent FLI both in Ukraine and in the Russian Federation.
The main theme of the conference touched upon the work of law firms in the context of the global economic recession. FLI members agreed on the importance for law firms of maintaining their present position on the world legal market. Beyond this, legal networks can show dynamic growth during recessionary periods, because they can provide a more competitive product measured by price, effectiveness and quality, compared to big international law firms burdened with excessive expenses.
Experts discussed the economic crisis and claimed it would spread pervasively, touching all sectors of the global economy. Accordingly, it is vital to know and use tools that will help to produce sustainable growth and welfare of the law market. It would also help the business clients simultaneously stimulating demand for the legal consulting. This theme dominated the conference.
This year, FLI welcomed new members from Kazakhstan, Portugal, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Jorge Zukowski, President of the American Chamber of Commerce, participated at the Conference as special guest and speaker during the last day.
Sergei Konnov, Senior Partner of Konnov & Sozanovsky, said that, “the first two years of our firm’s membership in FLI proved to be effective business model in the international aspect. A significant part of the income of Konnov & Sozanovsky is made within the framework of FLI and we intend to increase this portion.”
During the Conference, Konnov & Sozanovsky was awarded the “Most Outstanding Performer Award”.
