Konnov and Sozanovsky advised of the benefits of alternative foreign jurisdictions in business planning


On September 28, 2010 Konnov and Sozanovsky held a specialized seminar on "Planning and Development of International Business with the Use of Dutch Companies”, which took place at the Hyatt Regency Kiev and was organized in association with the international consulting firm “ANT Trust and Corporate Services” and the Dutch law firm “Hamelink & Van den Tooren”.

The seminar was devoted to a broad range of legal and practical issues of business structuring with the use of non-resident structures, in particular Dutch companies, the benefits and opportunities of Dutch companies for effective business planning and tax optimization, as well as the risks and conflicts of laws arising out in Ukraine in the course of business development with a foreign element.

The leading specialists of Konnov and Sozanovsky partner Yevgeniya Derbal and lawyer Dmitry Isaev, as well as foreign experts in the field of international business consulting and tax planning were among the speakers at the seminar.

Special attention to the seminar on the part of the Ukrainian business owners, chief financial officers and lawyers was caused by an increasing interest in the use of alternative foreign jurisdictions in business development schemes and protection of the Ukrainian assets.

It was the work with Dutch companies that sparked a heated discussion among the participants, as it is quite known that the Netherlands, not being the off-shore zone, offers a number of advantages for doing business, tax optimization and assets protection.

Additionally, lawyers of Konnov & Sozanovsky shared their experience in utilizing Dutch structures and noted that on account of the Netherlands’ favourable tax regime and the availability of a wide network of double tax treaties, special legislation on holding companies, as well as the privacy of the beneficial owners the Netherlands is really a favourable business destination.
