On May 27, 2011 Konnov & Sozanovsky, jointly with the Industrial Television Committee, held a “Media law” Conference. The conference program included issues on broadcast regulation, advertising, cinematography, cinema and television production.
Many experts, including legal counsels of broadcast organisations and production studios, representatives of the executive authority and consultants of leading law firms were engaged in the event.
Yevgeniya Derbal, Partner of Konnov & Sozanovsky, made a presentation on tax regulation of cinema production. During the presentation Yevgeniya touched upon questions of royalty taxation, practical aspects of determining the beneficial income recipient, controversial aspects of depreciation of intangible assets, etc.
After presentations all participants to the event wishing to discuss current issues on cinema production regulation had the opportunity to do so during the panel moderated by Julia Semeniy, Partner of Konnov & Sozanovsky. All those present were stirred by issues regarding national film determination criteria changes, problems with the receipt of rental certifications, state support and financing of national cinema, tax privileges provided to the industry.
A meaningful day was completed by the official buffet, where participants of the conference continued the discussion of questions raised in informal conditions that demonstrated the relevance of the organized event and need for further active work in the legislative field.
